Well my maxtor drive is pooped.

Turned on my computer screen and there was a blue screen of death.
Running windows 2000 professional, NTFS

I rebooted the machine and the computer doesn't detect the drive.
Put the drive in another machine to see if it would detect and the same
thing happened.

Ran the maxtor utility to see the drive, but no go.

I have to get the data off the drive...

The only thing it's doing is making a beep, not often, maybe every
minute or so.

Actually the beep sounds like the 'arm' is going back and forth.
Doesn't seem like the drive is spinning, maybe a bad motor?

I don't mind tearing this thing apart, but I thought someone out there
might know what to do.

Thanks in advance.

Okay one thing I did find out...

I pulled the power on the drive then re-inserted it and nothing
happened except for
a very small noise, very faint. Kind of like a capacitor or small
device buzzing sound..

any ideas?

I hope you have a BACKUP of the data on the drive, because it sounds like
this one is toast. That means that the data on it is not recoverable,
unless you use a professional recovery service, which charges around $1000.
