Memory upgrade possible for Pavilion 700 w/512 mb?

I have a Pavilion 700 with a 512 RAM chip in one of the 2 slots (512MB
DDR PC2 100).

All the sites indicate that 512 MB is the maximum memory, but they also
show the 2 compatible chips are 128 MB & 256 MB when my computer came
with a 512 MB chip in one slot.

They are probably right about the limitation, but I thought I would at
least check if that might be old information at those sites. What
limits the memory size, the BIOS?

I'm not sure about the Pavilion model in question, but chipsets impose definite
limits on the amount of memory supported by a system. As a rule, if a chipset
allows a certain amount of memory, then so would the BIOS... Ben Myers
