Hi, can anyone help please?

Installed a new HD on a Dimension 5150C but in the Device Manager a
couple of drivers seem to be missing. These are: -

PCI Device
SM Bus Controller

Where are these on the CDs supplied (i.e. which CD -> folder -> file)
or which ones can I download from the UK website?

Thanks for any advice.
Simon

I believe with the express code or tag number you should be able to
see what drivers you should have on the Dell web site. If not, see
what doesn't work on your pc and then Google for the drivers using the
model number of your peripheral for example. In the past when I was
in the same postion, after all else failed, I had to resort to a
little guess work.

Have tried the tag (FY0K32J) but still a little confused as to what I
should be downloading. Might have to try the guesswork path. Thanks
for the reply.

Sounds like you didn't install the Chipset drivers. They really should be
installed first, but it will probably work.

To plagarise (UK spelling) and modify Stew's response to another post, if you do
not have a Dell driver CD for your 5150c, here is the order in which drivers
must be installed to save you some time:

1) Intel (or other?) chipset drivers FIRST

2) Video adapter driver

3) Chipset drivers for the O2 smartcard, if a notebook

4) Network driver - usually Intel or Broadcom for Dell systems

5) Communication (modem) driver - e.g. Conexant D480 MDC V.92 driver

6) Audio driver - e.g. Sigmatel STAC 9750 AC97 driver.

If you received a Dell driver CD with your system, simply insert it in the
CD/DVD drive. It will install some of its own software, then present a list of
drivers available for your system.

If you do not have a Dell driver CD, download the drivers from the Dell web site
(probably onto another system), burn a CD or copy drivers to a flash memory
stick. Because Dell sometimes used two or more OEM suppliers for some of the
components, you may see several different possible downloads in the categories
shown above. As an example, but nVidia and ATI video drivers.

Either way, follow the order of driver installation above and everything should
be running smoothly thereafter... Ben Myers

Decided to start from scratch following your advice. Everything works
perfect.
