Hi Dean,
I don't think an ordinary coupler will do the job.
The 2 to 4 wire adaptor that came with my HP broke apart. I noticed
then that this adaptor only had two contacts, red and green, but they
were swapped around going through the adaptor.
A coupler is nothing more than a straight through pin to pin
connection. I don't believe the wires are swapped inside it.
When I use either a standard 2 or 4 wire cable into the 1-LIne,
I get errors like "move the phone cable to ext jack". This of
course does not work either. My HP needs the tip and ring to
be reversed. You can get this on the 'special' phone cable that
HP sells. What a stupid design!
