So given the masses and masses of monitors out there, is there a definitive
LCD that is both reliable, reasonably priced, good features and good for
games?

If so, which one?

The Samsung 710N was pretty good (nice image quality), and I suppose the
newer 19" versions of it would be too for value LCD's. But consider
that for gaming, a CRT might be more beneficial as most LCD's currently
buffer a full frame of at least 40ms to get rid of ghosting artifacts.
This can lead to artificially laggy input sometimes or a feeling of
floatiness in the worst scenarios. For general gaming however, it tends
to be less of an issue.

Viewsonic VX924 is 4 msec. No ghosting at all. I only
see a little bit in the 8 msec LCD monitors ... not worth
the worry. Any of the Viewsonics are good, but you
want to get the ones with DVI .

If you want high end, I would recommend the new NEC Multisync 20WMGX2 wide
screen. It's awsom with a spec of 6ms and a TV tuner built in. I know it's
expensive at around $750 but very nice.
