Hi, My computer is a Dell Dimension 8200 and I have a Microsoft Comfort
Curve Keyboard 2000 which has a USB connection. I have 5 peripherals the
4 USB 1.1's are full and the mouse, I got a PS/2 mouse adapter and the
computer recognized it with no problems, it automatically DLed to
drivers when I rebooted and all.

So I need to free up one USB because the headphones and mic and the
webcam and printer and keyboard are overloading the system, and I get
warning messages saying the USB resources are overloaded shows
percentages of USB use, etc... So I bought a Keyboard USB to PS/2
adapter and I could not get it to work. I tried rebooting to see if plug
and play would recognize it, I tried scanning for hardware changes in
the device manager, I downloaded the Microsoft Keyboard Program for
help. All to no avail, so I called Microsoft for Hardware support and
the guy said that this keyboard can only be used in the USB Port.

So I asked him if I could download special drivers from some 3rd party
site and he said that could not be done because it has to do with the
hardware it's self that it just won't work in the PS/2 port.

Well this fellow from an outsource office didn't seem to bright when I
asked him the questions as he had to keep referring to another employee
for an answer. And I got hard headed and said "Dammit, I want that to
work!" So, I'm wondering if anyone has any solutions to this?

Are there 3rd party driver sites that might have something to help me?

-Muse

P.S.Oh! I forgot to mention the other weird thing was that a couple of
times during my mad hatter attempts to get this thing going. I got the
plug and play "Da-Dung" sound a couple times when I put it in. Other
times I would get no sound. But either way, my computer would not
recognize the keyboard (through the USB)

Try a *powered* USB hub (i.e. not a "self powered" which draws current
from the USB ports themselves)

no matter what connector you attach to the end, your keyboard is not ps/2
compatible.
i suspect you are pretty low on ram to get those error messages but ram for
this model is so pricey for this machine that it isn't worth upgrading.
this is probably your best solution...

put the usb devices that can take advantage of the higher speed into it this
new board and leave the keyboard and other slow usb devices in the on-board
usb ports.

I just looked my keyboard up there and now I'm even more perplexed.
Apparently USB and PS/2 compatible

lol. so it means that either your ps2 port is bad or the usb to ps2 adapter
is bad... one of the user reviews of this keyboard at provantage.com is
"doesn't work with all ps2/usb converters"... still, spending $10 on my
previous suggestion is a better solution than wasting time and money on the
trial and error approach of different ps2 adapters. good luck.

Yeah, Thanks man for the link, I had NO idea that USB cards were THAT
cheap! Really appreciate it. I would have done some searching for one
eventually, but probably not at that price. I assumed they'd be around
29-39 bucks or something.

Woo Woo!

(sorry for my animation, that's the Grolsch and Ritalin talking)

Got one myself. Muto's right. Buy the card. Mine cost a staggering $18 for 4
additional USB 2.0 ports.

Since nobody's asked: you did plug it into the dedictated keyboard
port, didn't you?

I think you're referring to USB solely.
There's only 1 PS/2 port for the keyboard (that I know of) (has the
little mouse logo next to it)
