Hi Everyone,
I have MSI K7N420 Pro mainboard which was previously running a AMD
athlon 900, BIOS version 6373v2.0, I recently upgraded the CPU to a
AMD atholon 1500, and found that when booting the pc, it only
recognised the chip as running at 1000.
I had the same issue on another pc(going from a AMD athlon 1800 to a
AMD athlon 2400 on a EPOX 8KHA mainboard, and it only being recognised
as running at 2000)and found that flashing the BIOS solved this issue.
When i flashed the BIOS for the MSI mainboard, going from 6373v2.0 to
6373v2.8, upon reboot, it came up with an error saying 'Warning! Your
CPU fan may not be running!(or something to that effect). But i opened
up the box and found that it was running fine. It would still let you
boot into windows, if you pressed F1, but still had an annoying
beeping alarm going off, which you were able to disable in the BIOS by
telling it not to detect the fan, which then made the error go away.
It also showed in the BIOS the fan not running, didn't show as any
RPMs.
I even attempted to flash it again with 6373v2.2 which said it was
supposed to fix that particular issue about the CPU fan not working
error message, the flash was successful, but it did not solve the fan
error!
And even after the BIOS being flashed twice it still wasn't picking up
the chip as a 1500. How come this happening?
If anyone as any information on some way to fix the issue, i would be
most appreciated.
Regards
Will
