MSI p7n platinum won't post

I have the above motherboard and it won't post. I have only the cpu in, the 24pin and the 8 pin power in.

I'm getting a single red led in the lower left hand corner (if the board is oriented with the dimm slots in the upper right).

The cpu is a 3.0ghz duo.

I get no beeps or anything else. The board is outside the case on a piece of cardboard.

DO i have the correct power connected? Is it the cpu or the board that might be bad?
