hi,
At long lasti have finally been able to find a way to change the
multiplier setting on my emachine PC. But Not really the improvement i
was looking for. I know that there is also a setting called the
multiplier whic his set somehow. Coudl some explain what it is and how
i can change it. I am Using a celeron on an emachine motherboard, the
Trigem Lotmita and the current multiplier is set to x12, with an
orignal FSB at 100mhz so giving a 1.2GHz processor. The BIOS is totally
locked up so no settings there that i could change, no jumper switches
on the motherboard so it means if i am going to change the multiplier
then i need to do it via software. I do remember i used some in the
past which could change the multiplier but cannot remeber the name. So
really just need a explantion to what sets the Multiplier and software
which can change it. I have sorted ourt cooling with a waterbased
cooling system

You can NOT change the CPU clock multiplier for any Intel CPU newer or more
powerful than the Pentium II 300.
You can NOT change the CPU clock multiplier for ANY Celeron CPU.
The motherboard BIOS may have settings to change the CPU clock multiplier
for these CPUs, but changing the setting has NO AFFECT AT ALL.

A Celeron is not worth the expense of water cooling, and usually will
overclock nicely with just the Intel standard heatsink/fan.

The ONLY way to overclock Intel CPUs with a locked multiplier is to raise
the FSB speed. Unfortunately your motherboard does not have that
capability, and there is only the smallest of chances that any software
could change the FSB speed on your motherboard. And that still leaves you
with a problem if the CPU core voltage needs to be raised slightly to give a
stable overclock; and the problem of setting the PCI bus to less than 37
MHz.

Enjoy your system for what it is. Without an overclocking friendly
motherboard you really don't have much of a chance to overclock, especially
as a first-time overclocker.
