The board is a P5E WS Pro, sound card is RealTek with Driver Version
5.10.0.5404 and right now I only have headphones plugged in so I
don't think this is a ground loop problem. I would love to find a
solution and really don't want to RMA the board since it is otherwise
very stable. Thanks for any suggestions.

Try to mute the microphone input.
Because this is a pretty sensitive input, and picks up a lot of noise.
It you do need the mic, then try to disable the bias setting of the
mic.

Good luck!

Also try removing the CD-audio cable, if one is fitted. No need for
those these days and they can pick-up internally generated noise
from the mobo.

Thanks guys; I'm going to check those variables out tonight. I love
the board itself- super stable. I think Asus makes really great
boards, a little pricey but great boards, especially the higher end
ones.

I re-installed the original audio drivers from the Asus CD that came
with the board and the high pitched hum has disappeared. So I'm
guessing there were problems with the new drivers. Thanks again for
the help.
