need dvd writer for xz pavilion notebook

I need to replace my dvd/cd-rw with a dvd writer. I have a pavilion xz148 notebook. I purchased an nec nd-6750a slim drive, but the connector on the back was on the side as opposed to in the center as it is on mine. Is there a way to change this or does anyone know of a writer that will work? Thanks
