I know this group is for motherboards but hope that someonecan give
me a bit of advice.

Ihave two ASUS DRW 2014L1T dvd burners on the same machine and would like
to know which is the best way to connect them. Which serial connectors
should I use? One to a black connetor and one to red or? Or does it
make a difference? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

What's your motherboard?

If you see SATA connectors with different colors, they may be on different
controllers.

For example: I have an Asus P6T Deluxe. It has 6 red SATA connectors that
run off the Intel chipset. It has an additional two orange connectors that
aren't really SATA but are SAS (serial attached SCSI) off of a Marvell
controller. (They're supposed to be back-compatible with SATA. I haven't
tried them.)

I suggest putting the DVD burners on the primary SATA controller. That is
what I've done on my system. (I have 2 SATA hard drives as well, so that 4
of the 6 primary SATA ports are in use. My system has no PATA drives at the
moment.) If you can disable the unused controller in the BIOS settings, it
may save you a significant amount of time at startup, as well as eliminating
the need to install drivers for the third-party controller.

You are including totally irrelevant information and leaving out ALL of
the important information.

This IS a motherboard question. The burners are irrelevant.

When a motherboard has different color codes for the sata ports, usually
that means that different colors are on different controller chips.
Usually one color is on the main motherboard chipset (Intel or NVidia or
Via or whoever), and other colors are on other controllers (often a
JMicron controller, which may support RAID (for hard drives)). There
are a lot of issues and reasons why one or the other controller (port
color) may be preferable, but it depends on the overall configuration of
the system and how you intend to use the system. It is an impossible
question to answer with the little information that you have provided.

I have a P5K motherboard with 2 ide hard drives and 2 asus dvd burners.
If I put the burners on the primary it won't affect my ide drives? Thank
you.

Well are the burners SATA or IDE? Look at the connector at the back
of the burner, then reply.

So I should leave one on a red connector and one on a black for best
performance?

Per ASUS P5K Motherboard User Guide (version E3270) page 2-30

Connector Color Setting Use
SATA 1/2 Red Master Boot disk
SATA 3/4 Black Slave Data Disk
