Possibly I misunderstood your statement "The last line on each page overflows."
Does this mean that the last line on each page is printed all by itself on the
next piece of paper to come out of the printer? If so, your only recourse is
to check, double-check and triple-check the settings for the printer in the Win
98 environment, and also in the program that actually does the printing. For
example, if Word is used to print a document, different settings for the printer
margins within Word will change the way things are printed.
The only other possibility for relief here is if HP issued an updated driver for
Windows ME. There is generally a high probability that drivers released for
95, 98 or ME will work on the other DOS-based releases of Windows. If there is
no updated driver beyond 4.0 from HP, even for ME, you are stuck.
If "The last line on each page overflows." means that the last line of the
report is never printed, then my original suggestion of a memory upgrade still
stands. The different versions of Windows are more or less efficient in the
way that data is generated for printers. I first learned this when upgrading a
client from a Win 3.1 computer to a Win 95 computer. Reports producted with
Excel and Win 3.1 printed perfectly, but the same reports with Win 95 and a
newer version of Excel did not print properly. Instead the page ejected after
printing part of a page. The solution was a memory upgrade for the printer.
One last thing. Two last things. You can never depend on absolute
consistency between printer (and other) drivers on different versions of
Windows. And you can bet as sure as the sun rises every day that Microsoft and
its Independent Hardware Vendors like HP will continute to create more and more
bloated software with ever less efficient printer drivers. That's been the
trend from Windows 1.03 to the present day... Ben Myers
