I purchased a network card on ebay for myHP laserjet 5
I cannot get the network to see the printer.

Is a driver needed to make this work?

Help, please.
also,
Is there a wireless print servier which will work with this network
card?

Thanks so much

Print the configuration page from the printer front panel. If the network card
has been recognised by the printer there will be a portion printed titled "MIO"
or "HP MIO". If that is not there then the card has not been recognised by the
printer which indicates either a bad network card or a bad formatter in the
printer.
If the page is there and the printer is connected to a network "I/O Card Ready"
should be reported on the page. "I/O Card Not Ready" indicates a problem.
Once the printer recognises the card you will have to set the network
configuration from the printer front panel (or use specialised software to do
so). No driver is required, you will need to set up the network card to match
your network configuration.
To print the configuration page press the Go button until the printer is
"Off-line", press one side of the menu button until the display reads "test
menu", press the Item button until the display reads Print Self Test and then
press the Select button.

The control panel is the tried and true method to set the IP address for a
JetDirect MIO card. For some reason, I have seen two instances lately where
HP's Install Netword Printer Wizard is not wizardly at all. It is plan dumb
stupid and cannot see the MAC address of the JetDirect, so I've ended up setting
the IP the tedious way via the printer front panel... Ben Myers

Yes Ben I agree, I always use the control panel but know some people who use
the HP utility so I mentioned it in passing.
