The CMOS battery shouldn't be a player in this. When the CMOS batt
dies, you'll get an error message when you start the machine.
Remember that, particularly when new, batts thrive on a couple of
complete charge-discharge cycles (more so NiMH's than Lion's). If it's
an older battery that's laid dormant for several months, you might try
the charge, then fully discharge routine.
