This is, unfortunately, a very common problem.

Also unfortunate is that there is no way to recover your BIOS chip while
mounted in your motherboard. You either need a new BIOS chip or an external
reflash of your existing chip.

If you are in the United States or Canada you can get a new BIOS chip from
the Abit Parts Store for a US$6.00 handling charge, plus shipping, which
starts at US$5.00 for Ground service. http://www.abit-usa.com/abitparts/
(if you're from Canada, pay special attention to the link for Canadian
customers).

If you are elsewhere you will either have to contact the Abit office that
serves your region (find it at Abit's corporate website in Taiwan ..
http://www.abit.com.tw), use a 3rd-party service such as Badflash
(http://www.badflash.com) that ships globally, or have your existing chip
reflashed (this can be done at some electronics and computer-builder stores
... call around and ask if they have an EEEPROM programmer with a PLCC
adaptor).

If you know someone who has a motherboard that uses exactly the same BIOS
chip part number (peel back the sticker on your BIOS chip to get the part
number), you can perform what's called a "hot-flash" on their board. I've
written briefly on how this is done on my BootBlock Recovery Page
(http://pages.sbcglobal.net/jefn/bootblock.html) .. note that my recovery
procedures will not work for you .. there is no way to flash back to the
correct BIOS after flashing the code for the wrong motherboard.

Sorry for the bad news.

Jef

Have you tried uniflash?

Don't know if the present versions of awdflash still allow this:

/F is an undocumented option with awdflash
that basically turns off all validation checking inside the utility.

The present versions of Awdflash.exe still support the force flash switch
(/F).

Unfortunately when the BIOS for the NF7-S2 is flashed to the NF7-S,
Awdflash.exe issues a BIOS lock error and there is no way around it.

This problem has been discussed many times at http://forum.abit-usa.com many
times and the only option to resolve this problem is either a new BIOS chip
or an external reflash.

GlassVial's solution to use Uniflash has also been tried, and it has been
found to not work on nForce2 chipsets.

Tomorow i'll try to use /F.......i hope that it'll repair all. It's a stupid
thing that it's possible upload a wrong bios without warning. I did upload
from flash utility on windows......no warning and now my mainboard il ko.

bye....i'll say news after /F

Bad luck, as Guru Jef pointet out /F will not work.
You'll have to pull the bios eeprom and have it flashed separately.

As posted on A-bit forum
http://forum.abit-usa.com/showthread...2078#post72207

I also wrongly flashed my NF7-S v2 motherboard with the NF7-S2 bios

I tried to re-flash the proper bios, but AWDFLASH 8.23K didn't work -
It failed with a "It is not Award BIOS" error -- even with
/f param

With AWDFLASH 8.33A and 8.54B, I was able to get a little further
However, both failed with the following error

Programming Flash Memory

Flash ROM is Write-Protecte

Please make whether lockout jumper
is set to correct or not

Warning: Program Chip fail

Finally I tried the /qi command and this worked, with the bio
restored to the proper version

The command i used was
awdflash NF7D_27.BIN /py/sn/cc/r/cp/cd/q

I hope this saves others from having to buy a new Flash Rom chip o
servicing fees

Thanks for posting this cloudy1!

I have taken your solution (credited, of course) and added it to my
BootBlock Recovery Page, as many who encountered this problem have been,
until now, wrongly given hope that my other solutions would help.
http://pages.sbcglobal.net/jefn/bootblock.html

Thanks again for posting your success!

One question: what version of Awdflash.exe did you use to effect this
solution? I'll add your response to my page as well.

Jef

Just wanted to say thanks to cloudy1 for this tip:

| The command i used was:
| awdflash NF7D_27.BIN /py/sn/cc/r/cp/cd/qi

I did the same thing and flashed my new nf7-s v2.0 from windows with the nf7-s2 BIOS. After reboot I got a BIOS screen but no OS's, SATA or IDE. I was was pretty po'ed because this board was replacing a gigabyte 7nnxp that i flashed wrong. Anyhow, the above tip worked perfect for this particular problem. The AWDFLASH utility that came with the nf7d_27 BIOS download from the ABIT site made all kinds of warnings and complaints but it flashed it.

I did the usual, tuning the power off AFTER the flash completes and clearing CMOS. Then load optimized defaults and rebooted.

It was 4:00 AM, after a good 8 hours of hooking up an old Pavilion to search for a solution, then hooking up the other to try them out. When the Windows loading bar appeared I was dancing around the room

Much Gracious!!
