Hi,
I have a hp Pavilion 463.uk It hasn't been started for a number of months
and now when I start it I am not getting any sign of life on the monitor. I
have checked the graphics card and that is working fine. There is no audible
beep from the motherboard but all the fans are running OK. I have tried
reseating the graphics card, no change. I am thinking that the MB must be
knackered. Is there anything else that might be the problem or is it time
for a new computer?
Cheers
Lenny

No Bios POST (Power On Self Test), the first thing that the bios does
before handing control over to the CPU. One common problem could be
the Bios back up battery is dud and requires replacement, this is
usually a 3 Volt coin type cell.

NOTE:
Removing the Bios battery for more than about two minutes will result
in the Bios being set to it's default settings, the user settings
would have to be reset in the Bios screen, if the cell is that dud it
would have to be reset anyway.

Having said that it could be the power supply unit, seeing it been
switched off for a considerable time, a sign the electrolytic
capacitors are failing.

Repaired many a Video recorder & Digi box - OK when they working
but unplug them for a few minutes and then nothing.... like when the
customer unplugs to move them or to decorate etc.

Thanks Davy but it isn't the Power Supply unit as all the fans are working
fine? Just to be sure I have also replaced the supply but there is still no
Bios screen.
I have tried the Bios battery with no change also.
Any other thoughts?
Cheers
