no sound when powered: is it necessarily a MB issue?

Hi,
I think my motherboard is dead, but I'd like to ask you if it could also be
a processor problem.
The behaviour is the following: when I switch on the power supply, I have
the green light on the motherboard. Then when I press the power button, the
fan above the processors rotates a little while then stops. The motherboard
doesn't emit any sound.
Could anybody confirm me that if it was the processor that is dead, the
motherboard would at least make some beeps?

I've already checked the power supply, replacing it with another one, but
that didn't help.

The motherboard is an ASUS for P-4, 2.4GH, but I can't identify precisely
which model it is.

This is a good one.
I'm puzzled about this too, but what is especially troubling is the lack of
any beeps.
Short of the beeper being burned out as well, it sounds like the BIOS is not
even coming up to repond to the bootstrap sequence.
This sounds like massive failure, or power supply loss, but if you tried a
new PS
then I'm inclined to feel it's the first option.
I wonder if anyone has other suggestions.........or ideas.

Hi thanks for the reply. At the end it was only the motherboard that was
dead. Problem solved.
