Can I use a non-Sun pci ethernet card in a V490 (Solaris 10)? If so,
is there a compatibility list anywhere? I don't intend to use it for
booting from the network.

Since a lot of the cards which Sun supplies are standard PCI
cards made for other systems, the odds are that it will work, and that
the OS already has the drivers for it. If you have the card, plug it in
and try it. It should not harm anything.

An example is the Raedon 9000 framebuffer (graphics card) for
PCs is supplied under a Sun barcode number -- with a special firmware
installed (probably to make sure that the standard 1152x900 resolution
is supported). For ethernet, I doubt that there will be any problem,
assuming that the chipset is supported.

Good Luck,
DoN.

I use alot of Netgear GA311 10/100/1000Mb/s adapters, works on both
Sparc and AMD Solaris

e1000g(7D) supports Intel's Gigabit ethernet cards on SPARC and x64.

You can also look at Garrett D'Amore and Masayuki Murayama's
drivers.
