Hi guys,
It looks like the FL inverter has failed on our nx9105 laptop display (well
out of warranty I'm afraid).

Does anyone have a guide price for getting it repaired ?

I'm in UK if that helps, but would be happy to hear from anyone anywhere

Cheers
Owen

Have a peep at-:

http://www.rogerhenson.com/parts.php?db=9
http://www.techno-mart.co.uk/

These are little moduals that are easily replaceable... but are you
sure it's the inverter and not the leads or backlights..? Maybe a
Google for HP inverters will bring more resilts.

FOR INFO

I was quoted £150 from a local computer shop (who would have sent it away to
be repaired).
I later found that you can buy parts direct from hp at www.hp.com/buy/parts.
The inverter cost less than £50.

Yes, and getting that connector part that you lost probably won't cost
much more than, oh, about £100 or so... <bg>

Heh Heh,
Sorted it now.

If anyone else needs to do the same job, make note of the following points

The Keyboard ZIF needs care when removing. It has two small plastic pins
that fit under little 'shoulders' on the connector block. These can break.

Take note of the colour of each of the wireless aerial leads when removing
them. A digital camera photo may help.

Once you've removed the display unit you'll find that the maintenance manual
runs out of instructions .
What you need to do is.
+ Remove the 4 little rubber pads nearest the corners of the display unit.
Each has a screw underneath it. Remove the screws.
+ Carefully prise out the plastic bevel to separate it from the rest of the
'lid' - start near the hinges, as there is a bit of play to get you
started. I used a flat bladed jewellers screwdriver to do this.
+ On my nx9105 the inverter was mounted with 2 screws at the bottom of the
LCD unit. However, the replacement inverter did not have the same postioning
of mounting holes. Following reassurance from HP's Sitash in Mumbai, I
positioned the replacement so that I could use the left hand screw to hold
it in place.
+ Reassembly is straightforward, (with the exception of the keyboard
connector part! qv).

Hope you find this useful!
