OT: HDTV refund possible, 47"

Bad news: my Westinghouse 42" HDTV that I bought from Best Buy last
July has been having intermittent HDMI problems. Very frustrating to
say the least.

Good news: <knock on wood> it's up to Best Buy, but an option that
they have would be to refund my money and I could put it towards a new
HDTV.

Initially, a long time ago, I wanted a 30-something inch TV, and was
glad that I ended up with a 42". Having a taste of the 42", I wanted
something bigger that would get me closer to a true movie theater
experience.

So, now I can do that (hopefully). I won't get Westinghouse again,
even though in all other respects it's a fine TV. I will want to get
one that has VGA input for a computer because I have come to like that
feature. That's one area where a larger TV would come in handy. I
may actually be able to use it at full resolution rather than 1280 x
800.

47" might be overkill for my livng room but down the road when I have
a condo (I have a specific condo in mind) having a larger TV will
definitely be beneficial.

So, if anyone knows of a good 47" HDTV I am all ears. I have ruled
out Vizio and Westinghouse or any other cheap brand. Hmm, I guess
that leaves me with Toshiba, JVC, Sony, ..... ack, I don't know where
to start.

I remember there being a forum of some kind where people discuss
HDTVs, Home Theater, etc. but I forgot what it was.

Just how handy HAS it been to hook up your PC to the
HDTV?

Can you actually set back on your comfy couch and use
Windows and the net THAT way? is the resolution good
enough to be able to read and see everything?

And how big will you go this time around?

I'm not answering any more of your questions until you actually BUY
something. Living vicariously is perfectly OK, but you take it to a
new level! :-)

Why rule out Vizio? I have four of them and couldn't be more pleased.

Hi Tom, are you up on the current Vizio models? I was going to buy a
Vizio earlier this year but several TVs on display had sound problems.
It could be that Vizio shipped ones that had problems with sound for
display if they couldn't be sold, or maybe a bad batch.

I'll check Vizio user reviews and the company's website.

Sony is probably over-priced, Samsung is the Korean overachiever that
seems to be doing very well in many areas.

Lots of red wine goes well with derivatives and integrals --
especially the night before the exam. Not Italian wine -- French --
maybe a cabernet, merlot perhaps?

Its a disposable TV after the warranty is up, as is many of the inferior
products that can be bought at Walmart, Circuit City, BB, etc.

As Dish network techie, I see lost of bad tv's, hear allot of horror
stories about not being able to get service after the warranty is up.

Vizio has less than 100 total employees, its one of the largest selling
tv's, and they contract out all the manufacturing. If you want your
Vizio fixed after its out of warranty, it will cost you around $300.00
to send it back to get it fixed. But that's better than Polaroid, they
don't fix anything out of warranty.
