The way I did it with my IC7-MAX3:
1-Shutdown the pc.
2-Installed new SATA drive.
3-Booted the pc and made sure the sata drivers were installed
correctly and that the drive showed up in drive manager.
4-Used Drive Image to copy the boot drive to the new unformatted sata
drive.
5-Shutdown the pc.
6-Disconnect the original ide boot drive. [required step]
7-Set the bios settings to boot off the sata drive.
8-Boot off the new sata drive.
If you don't disconnect the original boot drive, XP will use it to
complete the boot up. If it is removed afterwards, XP will fail to
boot off the new drive, since it will be referencing the old boot
drive.
Once XP has booted off the new sata drive, the original ide boot drive
can be reconnected.
