OT moved my USB's

K7S5A in an Aspire Case. I got tired of kicking my front USB connectors, so
I bought a hub and moved all but the keyboard to it. I was surprised that it
(XP Home) appeared to be completely reinstalling everything. In 98SE this
would have given me duplicate installations that I would have needed to get
rid of in Safe Mode.


Is there some sort of Safe Mode to WinXP that I now need to go to and clean
up, or will XP reliably make these moves on it's own?

Since the "chain" of USB devices was altered, the system will redetect
the USB devices. There is a mechanism for starting up device manager
to show the "hidden" devices, you open a cmd window, set an
environment variable, and then run device manager from the command
prompt and the hidden devices will be shown, and you can "uninstall"
them. Have a look here:
