Howdy.

I have a desktop and laptop and Linksys.

Until a recent ZA update, I was able to network to some files back and forth
between my desktop and laptop.

All of a sudden I can't do it. When I disable ZA from my laptop all works
fine.

How do I reset ZA to allow me to do this again?

Mel

If I were running a software firewall, it would probably be Comodo.

ZA left me a long time ago.......

Go into the settings for ZA, and add your internal network into a
"trusted" zone, i.e. if your router is on 192.168.0.1 then add any of
the range it gives out, i.e. 192.168.0.2-255 to trusted.

Colin:

How do I find out the range? Also, oddly, I have NO PROBLEMS
connecting to the internet with my laptop. My problem is connecting
to my desktop computer and accessing specified files. Is your advice
still the same? Or should I be adding something pertaining to my
desktop computer ID.

Also, someone else suggested System Restore. Do you think this would
work?

I'm also annoyed because normally ZA says it has a new version and
asks me is I want to update. This time it just updated. Any ideas on
how to go back to the previous version?

Did you happen to also recently install the July Windows Updates? One of
them (KB95178) has a known issue with ZA. Check Point has a web page on it.

You could either dig out the manual, or if you fancy telling us what
router it is, I might already know :-} (i'm on a Sky rebadged Netgear
DG834)

The quickest way might actually be to go to a dos window (start / run,
type "cmd" without the "s), then type IPCONFIG

You'll get something like this...

------
Windows IP Configuration

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.3
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1
------

In my case, my router is at 192.168.0.1 (default gateway) and it hands
out IP addresses "above" that, so my machine is 192.168.0.3 - in which
case, I want to set up a range to let me "see" my local network by
putting anything in 192.168.0.2 to 192.168.0.255 in a "trusted" range.

Otherwise, you might get a clue by finding out what your IP address
is, but some use a "high" number for the default gateway - in which
case, you just omit that from the trusted range.

It'll likely only put ZA back to the old version :-}

If you were on a pre-7.0.483.000 version, forget about going back -
just switch off the automatic update checking :-}

Are the files on the laptop or the desktop?

If on the laptop.
Check the system time
Attempt to access the files from the desktop
Open ZA on the laptop and go to the Alerts and Logs view. Select Log Viewer
and see if there is an entry with a matching system time that has an 'Action
taken' of blocked.
Check that Source IP and Destination IP are very similar to each other
(typically 192.168.1.x)
If they are, click on the 'Add to Zone >>' button and select 'Trusted'

Try to access the files again. If not successful, go back to the 'Firewall'
view, select the 'Zones' tab, select the IP address you just marked as
Trusted and 'Remove' it from the list of trusted zones.

I forgot to say, also check the ZA Log viewer on the desktop, and do the
same 'set to trusted' thing on that if the 'Log entry' appears there.
