P5B-E INTEL RAID driver won't install

I have a P5B-E motherboard, and no matter what I do, I can't get the
RAID driver to install.

First, I'm trying to set up a RAID 1 Array. The boot drive is an IDE
type and will NOT be part of the RAID array.

Two SATA drives are connected to SATA channels 3 and 4. All drives
are recognized by BIOS and WINDOWS XP.

When I first set the BIOS to use the INTEL RAID controller, XP
detects a RAID controller and asks for a driver.

When I try to install the driver, the following message is displayed:

Cannot Start this Hardware
There was a problem Installing this hardware
Intel(R) ICH8R/DO/DH SATA RAID CONTROLLER
This device cannot start. (Code 10)

In XP's Device Manager, the RAID controller shows up, but has the
yellow "!", indicating that the driver isn't working.

Can anyone tell me what might be wrong, or what I shoud try next?

TIA

My experience with the P5B Deluxe board is that you have to set the BIOS to
RAID "before" you install the OS. You read it right, even if you're
initially not installing a RAID array the BIOS must be optioned for RAID.

I went through this a couple of weeks ago and that is the only solution I
could find, strange as it sounds.

It sounds fair enough to me. If RAID isn't enabled how can it be working?

I had the same problems. I changed the cables and it works now fine.

The point was that if you EVER plan on using a RAID array you must enable
RAID in the BIOS and install the Intel RAID drivers during "initial" OS
installation.

You cannot install the OS, without RAID enabled in the BIOS, and then at
some later date hope to install a RAID array without reinstalling the OS.

That's what happened to me, I installed the OS on a single HDD with the BIOS
optioned for IDE. I installed the Intel RAID drivers using F6.

When I added two more drives for a RAID 1 array, optioned the BIOS for RAID
and defined the array using the Intel CRTL-I routine during boot, Windows
would not load. I had to start from square one and reinstall using the
procedure I described above.

I'm not the only one that had this happen. I found other references to this
problem in my search for the answer. I have found no information that
contradicts what I had to do to remedy the problem.

I found that out myself last night. Thanks for the response.

I finally got it working. Now that the driver loads, I find that the
Intel RAID setup is very, very nice.
