Some of the HDaudio packages I've looked at from Asus, already
have a copy of 888111 included in the package. Perhaps if you'd
just stuck with the motherboard CD first, and tried that, things
might have turned out differently.
In the BIOS, there is a disable item for HDaudio. From the factory,
it should be enabled, and you can verify that HDaudio is still enabled.
The order of install I'd try:
1) Install (or Repair Install) Windows.
Use F6 if a storage driver is required.
2) Install Asus motherboard CD drivers.
3) Finish updating Windows via Windows Update etc.
And sometimes, all it takes is an extra reboot, for the software
to get straightened out.
Also, there are occasional issues with localization. Some early
Asus HDaudio packages came with about 25 different langauges. Some
later ones only had the English version of 888111. So plenty of
things can go wrong. I recommend inspecting the Asus driver package
first, to see whether 888111 is present, and whether the required
localization is also present.
Also, get a copy of Everest, and see if the HDaudio device is
visible in the Device lists.
