Can you control fans on all 4 (not the CPU) fan ports (using maybe speedfan)
or are they just dumb power ports.

Also if I turn off features like onboard audio does it still grab the memory
resources?

Thanks.

On my P5B-Deluxe, I believe CHA_FAN1 and CHA_FAN2 control the speed. The
others can only monitor it. There's a statement in the manual saying to
plug the rear chassis fan into either FAN1 or FAN2 for a 'better thermal
environement'. This is the only documentation hinting at the difference of
FAN1 / FAN2 versus the other 3, 4, & 5 ports I have.

Any features you disable in the BIOS do NOT use CPU or RAM resources.

All four fan ports can be controled with Asus QFan2, which I find works very
well.

On my P5B-Deluxe, only chassis fan ports 1 & 2 control the speed. The
other three (non-cpu) ports can only monitor the speed, not control it.
The manual does not explicitly state this. It merely says something like
(paraphrasing) "attach rear chassis fan to fan port 1 or 2 to achieve best
thermal environment"

Well, all four ports are controlled by QFan2 on the P5W DH Deluxe, and that
is what the OP was asking about. There are two seperate settings for the
two pairs of fans in the QFan2 BIOS settings. for Silent, Performance and
Optimal.

The P5W DH Deluxe manual specifically says that it controls only CHA1,
not 2 (pg 4-36). It appears to control both PWR fans, too.

And Manuals are never wrong...

I ran over to a friend's house who has one of the P5Ws and I can confirm all
4 ports are controllable with Speedfan.

Very nice!

Yes, all four fan ports can be controlled. BUT, not
completely separately.

The two chassis fan ports have a single speed controller. The two
power fan ports also share a speed controller. The CPU fan has its own
speed controller.

For example, I have my two case fans connected to PWR_FAN1 and
PWR_FAN2. I can adjust the speed for both fans, but I cannot set the
fans to different speeds (I am using Speedfan but BIOS controls do the
same thing).
