First, I would like to say *thank you* to the people who post and frequent
this newsgroup. Because of the information I found in threads like this
one, I was able to finally get my printer working.

(aka TinyURL:

Next, I would like to say a big YOU SUCK BIGTIME to the HP phone and
live-chat "support" division. If I ever get the chance to meet Carly
Fiorina I'll spit in her face. HP printer support used to be EXCELLENT.
It's complete GARBAGE now. Outsourced to a land that speaks english as a
*third* language. What good is 24/7 support if the support doesn't even
understand you? And yes, I blame Carly for that. It happened on *her*
watch. After two "live chat" sessions and one phone call, the person on
the phone I spoke to told me I needed to call my laptop manufacturer and
the problem was with my Laptop. Complete crap since this happens on TWO
different laptops from TWO different manufacturers.
Just for posterity's sake I'd like to sum up some of my problems that lead
me to finally looking here and finding an answer (along with my
resolutions)...
I had an OfficeJet G85 with a JetDirect server. Similar to the person who
started the above-TinyURL'ed thread (David Crow - thanks Dave!). I found -
the hard way - that you need to REMOVE the old OfficeJet G85/G95 drivers
prior to installing the 7410 drivers. If you don't, the 7410 drivers will
crash on install. This would also be the case for the 7300 series too
(they use the same driver set).
I also found that if you need to run a LaserJet on the same machine (like
my wife does with her LaserJet 1012 for her work) that you have to install
software in a specific order. OfficeJet drivers first and THEN LaserJet
drivers. If I didn't, the LaserJet wouldn't print - even if it had been
working before installation of the 7410 drivers.
Also, my printer came with version 4.2 of the drivers. These drivers cause
all kinds of errors including the ones that David Crow mentions in his
thread (these happened to me):
1) The driver and accompanying daemon software is less than robust.
On my Windows XP desktop, I regularly get "Windows Data Execution
Prevention" errors and also "Application Errors" showing an attempt
to access memory at 0x00000000.
2) The drivers don't work well on a laptop when there is no LAN
connectivity with the printer. In this situation, I cannot launch
Internet Explorer and see the same errors as in problem 1.
On the website version 4.7 of the drivers fixes these problems. However,
startup and logging into my laptop were slow. Getting the file
HPGREG32.dll and putting it here fixed that problem (but I'm not sure why):
C:\Program Files\HP\Digital Imaging\bin and you can find that file here:
