Not that it was fast with Jaguar (iMac FP 800 Mhz), but it was usable at
least.

Has anybody found the trick for Panther (other than upgrading to VPC 6) ?

I have Virtual PC 6 and it seems faster with Panther.

Maybe Virtual PC 5 is now outdated?

Uh, yeah, but it ran fine under 10.2 - so the basic code is plenty
fast.

Performance is incredibly bad with v5 under 10.3. Maybe the O/S
interface has changed and made some design assumptions invalid. At the
very least I'd love to hear an explanation and better still, a
workaround; because this software investment has suddenly become
worthless.

M$ would obviously like you to believe version 5 is "outdated",
because then you might be more likely to give them money for v6. But I
am certainly not doing so.

VPC 6 is looking like bad news for me too. Very slow. I even reinstalled XP
to no avail.

This Macintouch report may offer some hope:

\\
Lee Neuman:
Michael May wrote in the Nov. 7 Panther report about slow Virtual PC
5.0. We had a similar problem on our Dual 450 G4. We repaired
permissions, restarted, turned of the Mac and let it sit, and didn't
solve the problem. Then we tried resetting the PRAM. After restart
Virtual PC 5.0 now runs at normal speed and so do the other
applications. Hope this helps.

I haven't tried this on my machine yet.
