I have a Pavilion 533 (256Mb of memory as a single DDR SDRAM DIMM and a
2.0 Ghz Celeron processor). I'm looking to upgrade the memory and don't want
to pay the huge premium for memory that's guaranteed compatible with the HP
Pavilion. Will a standard 256Mb or 512Mb PC2100 DDR266 SDRAM DIMM (low
density, say 64Mx64) be likely to work?

Telling me a web site where I can buy HP Pavilion memory would not be
answering my question. I am aware of numerous web sites where I can buy
Pavilion memory.

Yes, generic is OK. I'm not sure whether the computer requires PC2100 or
PC2700. Pull the stick of DDR in there now and read the stickers on it. Buy
good quality from a reputable seller like www.crucial.com .

Despite all the blather from the name-brand companies about using "their" extra
expensive branded memory, it's all generic these days. Match the speed
requirement of the motherboard, and that's it. High-end server memory is
sometimes a little more difficult, but generic nevertheless... Ben Myers
