Pavilion 733.uk memory install - how hard?

I've a 733.uk Pavilion with the base 256MB ram installed. I'd like to add
more and there's a .pdf on the HD telling me how to do it, plus I've had an
email from HP confirming that it won't affect the warranty if I do it
myself.

However, I'm concerned that the slots won't be that easily accesible so
before taking off the side I thought I'd ask if anyone else had added ram to
this model...

The .pdf refers to the removal of the fan cowling - is this necessary to
access the slots? Is is a bugger to get on and off and just how cramped are
things inside the case?

Si.

Best advice I can give you is to open the beast up and see what you are dealing with. The fan
cowling is usually a fairly simple removal, basically a 'tab a' into 'slot b' type of affair. Just
make certain that you are using approved HP memory, as, HP m'b's are notorious for not accepting
just any RAM...luck...

Cheers,

I've installed cards and ram in other machines before, it's just that this
is my new toy and I don't want it going belly up...

Chances of it 'going belly up' is rather slim with RAM installation. Just make sure that the slot
lines up properly and that it is completely seated. As to the fan cowling, as I stated, it is
usually a very easy procedure, I had one on an 8240 that I owned a while back and it just slid out
of the slots and slid back in the same way. While yours may not be exactly the same, I doubt
seriously that HP has made it much more difficult since then...luck...

Cheers....I think my belly up reference was in light of the anticipated
sweaty shaky hands that I get whenever I open one of these things up...the
last install I made couldn't have been easier though...my laptop, one screw,
one flap and in it went.
