System is AMD 1800, WinME, MyHD TV Tuner card.

System was working great, very stable when I had Win98se
running. However, when I tried to install a logitech
cordless keyboard/mouse combo, Win98 would BSOD. I did
several clean installs all the way from formatting HDD
through OS and driver installs, trying Win98, WinME,
Win2000. After lots of trial and error, the only
combination that would work with all hardware including the
new logitech was WinME. However "would work" here has a
catch.

About once a day, the PC reboots itself. This only happens
when a network cable is plugged in and the card is on my
home network. With the onboard network chip enabled,
drivers loaded, but no cable actually plugged in, the PC
will run for days without a reboot. As soon as you plug in
the network cable, the daily reboots return.

I have downloaded the latest drivers for the network chipset
already. And keeping in mind that all this same hardware
other than the new mouse/keyboard worked fine before, I
really don't see how this could be a hardware problem. It
must be some kind of driver, or setup issue.

If you know the solution to this problem (other that tossing
the new keyboard and returning to Win98, I already know that
is one way) please post it here!

Thanks,
gm

Try disabling the APM in the BIOS?

With APM disabled it shouldn't make a difference.
With APM enabled the boot up via LAN option may work e.g the system
can be booted from a remote computer network.

Thanks for the additional info.

I was thinking it was network related, but was lead on a wild gooes
chase by winme. Win98 asks for you network password whether there is a
network connection or not. Winme doesn't ask if there is no
connection, it just skips and goes on with the boot. So i was coming
home, and saw the pc sitting there waiting for a password and knew it
had rebooted. I noticed that if I left the network cable unplugged
this never happened. Well, it did, I just didn't know it since winme
just skipped on along. I put a floppy in so if it booted it would end
up at dos and found that it rebooted itself without the network also.

I poked around some more and found that winme loads this thing called
PCHEALTH, which scans all drives every 10 minutes, forever! If you
remove it from the scheduler, it put's itself back! Thanks Uncle
Bill. The only way to kill this thing is to do a selective startup,
and uncheck PCHEALTH, then you can remove it from the scheduler. What
a pain! So now that's gone, we'll see what happens. I don't think
this problem is hw because this never happed when I was runnin win98.
I'd rather have left it a 98, but that's another long story!

Will report back it killing PCHEALTH solves the problem or not.

gm
