The problem i'm having is that i got a HD that has crashed (Seagate
Barracuda ATA Model ST314220A) & a HD that's working perfectly (a
Maxtor).

Now when i try & boot with both HD's connected the computer won't boot
& i get primary & slave failure's, if i disconnect the seagate it
boots perfectly. So i gotta disable it in the bios in orde to boot
normally.

Now my question is, is there any way to recover the data on the HD in
windows 2000? All datarecovery progs etc... i've tried (& i've tried
a bunch) failed to see the harddisk, even if i did IDE detection with
Windows.

Does anybody know a program that would detect it or a way to boot the
pc with the HD installed, so the datarecovery progs can do their job?

Hope i've been clear!
Bye

Hi nathalie

first things first, was the hard drive already installed and then it
crashed?

if so how old is it?

if the hard drive isn't working at all and no power is getting to it,
the bios will not reconize it at all, also check cables are in the
correct slots and the ide cables are in pin 1, also make sure that the
bios is set correctly if so then the HDD is shot.

could be you had bad sectors already and the HDD is old. How old was
the HDD?

There are programs you can use the retrieve data, How important is the
data?

good luck.

if the hdd dosnt detect therz not much that software can do for u....
if ur feeling lucky u can try swapping the controller(if its the
controller thats dead) with another controller of the same model, if
that dosnt work either n the data is really really important then id
sugest u give it to some professional data recovery ppl, they should
be able to get data of the drive

yeps hd was already installed when it crashed & i guess i bought it in
1997 or something, can't remember correctly.

pin1 is correct & bios shouldn't be a problem either.

Well i know there is progs to help me retreive the data but with the
one's i've used i had no luck, since there is no HD detected from the
start.

well it's pretty important months of work are on it, so i really would
like to have it working.

Thx for your answer the quest continues!
