Which one would be better the Pentium 4 is a 3.2 Ghz Hyper-threading
processor, and the notebook is mainly going to be used as a desktop
ie. not much travelling or mobile computing.

What are some of the advantages of M over a regulard pentium 4

Hi,
The Pentium M will give you longer battery life. Other than that,
not much. Sounds like the P4 is more up your alley. It will provide
better graphics rendering and faster processing with the
hyper-threading technology.
By the way, if you are going to use the laptop as a desktop, why
not get a desktop system if you don't want to go mobile anyway? It
will save you money. If you are a gamer, a big flat screen CRT with
the desktop really can't be beat.

don't underestimate the Pentium-M. The next generation pentiums won't
be based on Pentium4, but on Pentium-M. The Dothan (2MB cache) is very
powerful, and ideal for a laptop. Combine it with the latest graphics
card, and the pentium M dothan and Pentium 4 are both very powerful.
My advice: laptop=pentium M

Hi,
If considering a cost/benefit analysis of the Pentium-M versus
the Pentium 4, the P-4 is still the better buy. Some will argue that
the P-4 will overheat and reduce performance but the benefit of the
P-M being a cooler running processor is taken away by it's price. If
you are concerned about future compatibility, the Pentium-M is the way
to go. However, if you want a powerful laptop for less cost now, the
Pentium 4 is still the way to go. Don't forget, there is still the
Pentium 4 Mobile processor. In general, it has some of the benefits of
the Pentium-M without all the $.
It all depends on what the use of the machine will be and what
price a person is willing to pay. The Pentium 4 will not become
outdated anytime soon and the prices of the Pentium-M processors will
come down over time. When the next-generation processor is released by
Intel, the Pentium-M will definitely get cheaper.
