Power-down/up problem with old Vectra XW 6/200

I have an old HP Vectra
XW PPro workstation that
I like so much I was
seriously considering
putting an overdrive CPU
in it, but it seems to
have developed an odd
power-down/up problem:
the front panel button
won't turn the system
off and, after unplugging
the AC, it won't power on
again consistently unless
I move the voltage
selector slide switch a
couple of times before
reconnecting the power
cable. Once up and
running, the system
behaves completely normal
(currently running 98 SE).

This old horse has quite a
few aftermarket components
that have never presented
any problems before --
most of the RAM is from
Kingston, the video card
is an old Jaton (Trident
chipset), and all the old
IDE stuff has been ditched
in favor of an all-SCSI
disk subsystem.

Any and all wisdom is
appreciated -- thanks in
advance!

Update -- pulling the
little ribbon cable that
connects the motherboard
to the little front
panel pod that contains
the power switch, reset
button, and LED got
everything working again.
It looks like I found the
culprit, and the repair
is trivial should I ever
decide to be bothered
with tracking down the
part -- anyhow, stand
down from red alert....
