I recently purchased an HP Pavilion a6152n and plan on installing an
Nvidia 6800 GTS video card. I will have to upgrade the small 350 watt
power supply the system came with to do so though, but I'm unsure of
what to get. The motherboard is identified as a micro-ATX ASUS IPIBL-LA
or Berkeley-GL8E (HP's name for it). I read a review of the machine
where someone claimed to have installed a Rocketfish 700w supply, but
that product doesn't seem to be available. Any advice on a suitable
power supply would be appreciated, and while I'm comfortable installing
cards and drives, I've never tackled a power supply. Will step by step
instructions for removing and replacing the supply come with the unit I
buy? Any advice on the process? Thanks.

Installing a power supply is very simple - it connects to two
different outlets on the motherboard - just replace the cables one at
a time with what's already there and you should have no trouble. But
as for which power supply - that's something I'm trying to figure out
as well and don't have any reliable suggestions.

Hey guys;

The best way to determine how much wattage your going to need is with
a power supply calculator. The hard part is to find one that is up to
date with the latest technologies. Lucky for you, i did the legwork
and i highly recommend this one:

I'd aim to buy one with at LEAST 50 watts more than they recommend in
case you do any upgrades (which you will) in the future. A lot of
power supplies come with lifetime warranties.

Once you have the wattage figured out, you only have to worry about
name brands and pricing. It never hurts to go with a name brand you
are familiar with, as theres a lot of no-name companies out there.

Good Luck!
