I have a HP Pavilion a219.UK computer and problem with the switch on button.
The main square button on front panel has a very flimsy return type of
spring made from plastic. This is broken and won't return the button after
pushing it.
Result being that the computer starts up but then switches off again because
the power button is still held in.
Anyone know if this button and return spring can be purchased anywhere.
Cheers,
Jim

My best guess from having mucked around with these sorts of problems is that a
replacement front bezel is in order. Remove the front bezel to make sure.
Examine it to see if the front panel button is somewhat permanently attached to
the bezel... Ben Myers

Thanks Ben. Pity to have to replace the whole front for a simple little
switch.
It doe's switch on then I have to bang the front cover to make it come back.
Perhaps I will contact HP about it.
The switch looks to be a separate piece from the front and easy to fit.
That's why I wondered if there was anywhere I could buy it from.
Thanks again.

I have no idea if the switch would be an individually replaceable
component rather than part of a larger subsystem, but you might try
entering the product number/model name of your system into
http://partsurfer.hp.com/ and see if it can list any likely looking
part.

It seems to be an integral part of the front casing and I got a quote of
£37.00 for a second user one.
I'm going to have to make something to do the job rather than pay that sort
of money.
I'll have a go at it tomorrow.
Thanks to all who replied.
Kind regards,
Jim.

That's overpriced, no matter what the currency symbol is. All we're talking
here is a hunk of plastic. An example of how not to win friends among
customers... Ben Myers

I had a round power switch on a Pavilion 7955 do that. I was able to slip a
very slim piece of metal between the button and its housing and get it to
pop back out. After that I was very careful when I turned it off and on,
making sure that I always put a straight in pressure on the button whenever
I turned it off and on.

Good idea William.
I'm trying to find a very fine coil spring about half inch diameter that I
can glue to the inside of the button.
At the moment it switches on OK but I have to bang the front cover to make
the button flick back out.
Thanks for the tip.
Jim.
