i replaced the nvram in an old sparcstation 2. i used the quick and
dirty method in the nvram FAQ. i was forced to use the fix which
creates an incorrect reading which forces the nvram to become active -
i changed one bit, and it worked.

now, however, everytime have to power on or reset, i get an error
message about TOD, to the effect that at position f20007f9 the reading
is 0000007f and it should be 000000ff. that means i can figure out the
bit which is off, obviously the 8 bit of the hex f is zero and should
be 1, and this reduces the hex number to 7.

is there any easy way to fix this with eeprom? doing bit calculations
scatters my old brains.

as it is, i just ignore it, and the nvram performs perfectly after i
boot. but it isn't neat. the boot process keeps telling to replace the
perfectly good nvram.
