Hello.
Hopefully somebody has come across the following and has a solution.
I have the latest available BIOS on the mobo (1024.001) and run XP SP2
though this is irrelevant.
There are 3 internal SATA II disks (jumpered as SATA I) and 2 CD/DVD
IDE drives.
There's also some external USB disks and that's where the problem
comes in.
All USB disks are connected to powered hubs.
If I plug in two 160GB disks, the system boots fine.
If I add one 500GB (LaCie) it refuses to boot. It reads the disks and
freezes on the "press F2" message.
It makes no difference if I remove the 160GB disks.
I tried with another 500GB LaCie, a 750GB and also a 1TB Seagate My
Book Home.
The system doesn't boot if any of them are plugged in.
My workaround is to unplug them when I boot, wait for Windows to
start, and plug them in then. They all work fine without any
problems.
How can I get around this boot problem?
Only thing that comes to mind is that maybe the LaCie and My Book
disks are forced into SATA II mode. They are in sealed boxes and I
can't even find any software to tell me what mode they are in.
Any ideas?
