Problem with CD RW & DVD RW they will not work

I have a Dell Dimension XPS T600 and the CD RW supplied stop writing
(I only used it a few times then did not need it for a while, I think
I reloaded windows meanwhile due to other software problems.
I since tried a new DVD rw still no joy. The BIOS notes correctly as
does the control panel, but any software tried says no supported CD-R
or CD-RW, tried Nero & NTI. Any ideas please

I had a similar problem when my original CD drive packed in and was
replaced by a different type. I had to get new drivers form the makers
web site and this solved the problem
