For some reason I seem to be having trouble installing my Pentium D 3.2
GHz on the MSI P4M890M motherboard. It fits in fine, but the lever
mechanism that is supposed to clamp down the CPU appears to be faulty.
It would require a lot of force to lock the lever down after the CPU is
in position. The instructions say puch the lever down lightly, so
something must be wrong. The CPU has metal contacts and not pins, but
the CPU is compatible with the motherboard. I can avoid this by pushing
the lever down before the plate, but this is not correct. I haven't
tested either one to see if the computer will run yet because I want to
ensure I don't cause any problems. Has anyone else experienced this,
or knows what my problem is? I appreciate it.

An example of CPU install instructions. 10MB download.
This same doc is probably also on the Intel site, but I
cannot find it right now. At least Intel has decent
download speed.

ftp://ftp.asus.com.tw/pub/ASUS/mb/77...stallation.pdf

Installation movies, playable in Windows Media Player. 16.1MB download.

http://www.intel.com/cd/channel/rese...nce/100617.htm

Have a look and see if there is a detail you missed.

HTH,
Paul

well, i wasn't doing anything wrong. i went ahead and applied enough
force to close the clip. I just figured it wouldn't take so much force,
but it works fine. Thanks.
