My computer is a Dell Dimension 2400 running Windows XP and I'm having
trouble getting a
new GeoForce 6800 graphics card working right. The problem is that
the
computer recognizes both integrated graphics adapter AND the GeoForce
card AND I'm getting all my desktop icons etc, showing on the Samsung
BUT the mouse and Start button and task bar is on the old monitor. I
can right click on the desktop and get to the settings menu BUT it
lists both monitors but they are greyed out and I am unable to de-
select the old monitor. I'm hoping and expecting that if I can
deselect the old monitor I will have full function on the new
Samsung.

Help!

You need to disable your onboard graphics via the BIOS. Remove any drivers
for your old monitor and onboard graphics.

You're going into the display settings and they're greyed out? That's
odd.

Are you doing it from an account that is limited, rather than an
administrator account? Try logging on as the 'real' administrator.

There is no way to disable the onboard graphics on a Dimension 2400.
The only way to do it is in Windows. Weird, but true.

Been there, done that.

Bet thats it, Tom. I have not selected as administrator. I'll give it
a try.

You have been helping with info before. Thanks again.

Wish I could report that you did it, but that honor goes to a guy on
another NG. This was his advice and Bingo it worked: "Control panel,
and disable the integrated adapter and re-boot?" of course that was a
bit too simple, cause it had to be done in "device manager". But it is
humming and I'm happy.

So simple. Hope it helps you sometime and thanks a lot for helping.
