problem when trying to reformat a hard drive

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone had any ideas about what I could try to fix
a hard drive that seems to be having issues. When I try to run a scan
disk on it, it will freeze at a certain point (no error message, but
the percentage done will no longer move and the drive itself seems to
make a funny noise at that point). The same thing happened when I
tried to reformat the drive ( it seemed to happen around the same
place too).

Is there anything else I could try or should I just get a new hard
drive?
