Problems booting from the CD drive

My computer has a HDD problem, and I need to start from the CD drive to fix it with my windows CD. Of course, I don't know how to do that. My friend tells me that holding down one of the F# buttons while the mobo title screen is up should do it, but I've tried them all and got nothing.
