Hi

I am the owner of a Geforce TI 4800 which I am using with Revision
6.14.10.61.6177 of the official Nvidia-driver, which is not that
up-to-date anymore. I am using Win2k SP 4. Unfortunately I am
encountering serious problems while trying to update the drivers. I
have tried multiple approaches so far, but none successful. I have used
the "78.01 winxp2k international" version of the drivers for my tests.

1. Installing the Driver without deinstalling the old one. The menus
in "Display properties" open only with delay of up to 10 seconds,
sometime the system freezes completely. Obviously something is not
right.

2. Deinstalling the driver via "Software". After rebooting I can start
the driver installation, but it aborts with the message "No compatible
Hardware found".

3. Deinstalling via Display Properties / Video Card / Properties /
Driver / Deinstall. This time I could even start the driver
installation process but right in the middle of the install the screen
blanked and I had to hardreset the PC.

In earlier versions of Windows I always used to install a
Standard-VGA-Driver before installing new driver for my video card.
Unfortunately it seems that this option is not available in Win2k
anymore - or is there a way to do it ?

Is there any way I can upgrade my drivers without having to reinstall
Win2k ?

Bye
Stefan

http://www.drivercleaner.net/

I surmise that the OP has some remnants of the original NV4_* drivers
included with 2000 and the control panel app isn't the correct version.
Do a cleaning and reinstall from the new driver setup in safe mode, it
should work fine.
