In the absence of any advice I went ahead anyway! It seemed to work OK.
The procedure was:
Insert the new disk - server still running.
Run the Compaq Array Configuration Utility - Configuration Wizard.
This created a second array, RAID 0, consisting of just the new disk.
Run Windows Disk Management. This detected the new disk and ran a
wizard to partition and format.
So, very easy in the end. The server didn't need powering down and the
disk was added in about five minutes.
