If you created the recovery discs as they tell you, it will put the computer
back to the way it was when you bought it.
Anything you added after you bought it would have to be reinstalled. All
data you added will be lost.

I agree with Larry. I've been there more times than I care to admit.
They REALLY need a function to repair/re-install OS, that works,
without wiping and re-formatting the entire drive. Also, before you use
the recovery disk you need to unplug all devices you mave have added,
including memory. I forgotten to crack the case and remove the memory
several times and it crashes and burns with various error messages that
give you no clue that it was caused by the additional memory.

When I talked to the Help desk and the Chat Line they both told me that
if I wanted this function to go out and buy a retail version of XP Pro
for over $300. Even if I did since I have the Media version I'm not
sure that it would work. A extreme amount of greif to save the cost of
shipping a single OS disk with the computer.

I agree even if they offered it as an option for $15 or $20 I would go for
it. I guess with cheap Costco computers and such, they found a nutty way to
save a few cents.

Didn't know added memory would be an issue? I can see graphics cards and
other items.

I even tried to wait and burn a recovery set after intalling the memory
chips, so that I could use my own recovery disks and not have to open
the case and remove them. It started creating the list of files to copy
and crashed & burned at about %6. Still have't found a way around this
problem.
