Quickie;Installing IC7 M3

Took me three tries to get MB installed in case. Problem was getting the
tangs on the *&^%# IO shield properly situated. Now I'd like to do a quick
and dirty test of the MB to make sure nothing is shorted or at least that it
has some functionality. I intend to attach the ATX power connector + the 2X2
P4 connector. attach the power sw connector to the MB and turn it on (no
CPU, no memory, nothing). The Northbridge fan should work correct? Any
problem with doing this? I know it's not testing all components I just want
some reassurance <s>. It's been a looong time since I built a new box. -

I would expect all fans and drives (if any) to power up as long as the power
supply was correctly connected to the mobo. however, I would not take that
as conclusive evidence of no short, just because the fans power up...

I wouldn't bother with this step Ed, there's more potential for it to
mislead rather than help you. Plug the CPU, memory and graphics card in
before you power it up.

Oops - Too late Richard I did it and all's well - lights, fans, etc.
Actually I've just been delaying the inevitable. Deciding whether to lap
the CPU -No, installing the CPU-easy after you get it out of the plastic box
without bending pins, *and* installing the monster Zalman CNPS-7000-Cu. It's
dark now and I need daylight so I'll do it tomorrow <BG>.
