I've got a new entry on my Vista experience blog
http://blog.360.yahoo.com/blog-vbgL8XY7cqudqaIlm11BqaTz
andjust logged this ticket with ATI and wondered if anyone else has
experienced this and has a better workaround or solution.

I have a Dell Dimension XPS410 and the X1300 graphics card is connected
via a dvi to hdmi cable to a Sony Grand Wega 55" HDTV as the sole
monitor. The display works fine when the pc is powered, however when the
TV is powered off and back on or the input changed on the TV I get not
video until the PC is rebooted or the display cable is disconnected and
then reconnected.

f I pull the cable and reattach then the display becomes visible and
changes to a smaller screen size setting and then I have to redefine the
screen size.

I attached a second monitor (analog) in a cloned and extended display
configuration and that display remained functional when the dvi digital
one did not. After the digital display went blank I was able to recover
by repeating the Catalyst display setup although I have to do this every
time the digital HDTV display is powered off or input changed.

From this ATI KB it looks like I am not alone.

questionID=20848

A workaround I am going to try it to use a DVI-I to COMPONENT cable I just bought on eBay.

Well, that's normal. The TV has to be on for the computer to sense it. No
TV on, no display.

This is what I would expect Windows to do also. Once the TV is off/lost,
then the display probably wouldn't return w/o a reboot.

Alas when I first recieved my system I could change TV input sources, turn
the TV off and then back on and the presence of the TV was detected and it
got a input while leaving the PC on or even after the PC had gone into
sleep.
