Hello

I have an old PC with a Gigabyte BX2000+ motherboard. Now, I want to upgrade
my graphic card. At a local shop I found a Radeon 9200 card wich would be
perfect, but:
I don't know if this card works in my motherboard. The board has a 3.3V AGP
slot. The Radeon9200 seems to have a connector wich could fit in my board (
It has two slots, I think the are called 'keys'). The www says nothing
really useful and the guy from the shop couldn't tell me if it wold work.

Does anybody have some experience with this issue?

Many thanks

Felix

Search for product information at "Customer Care" at
http://www.ati.com/
for information about Radeon 9200.

Search for motherboard specifications or manual at
www.gigabyte.com.tw

A major concern about upgrading an old computer systems
is whether the original power supply still will provide adequate
current to the three power rails (+3.3 volts, +5 volts, and +12 volts)
after all of your upgrades (second hard drive, optical drive, etc.)
are considered.

More information about power requirements is available at
http://www.jscustompcs.com/power_supply/

According to that site
a basic AGP/PCI video card requires up to 30 watts,
ATI Radeon 9000/9100 requires up to 35 watts,
ATI Radeon 9500 requires up to 45 watts,
and ATI Radeon 9700/9800 Pro requires up to 54 watts.

My 6-years-old computer crashed upon booting after I upgraded to a
GeForce FX 5200 video card. My computer's original 200-watts power
supply already was maxed out after I had added a second hard drive and
added a CD-R burner, and the computer promptly crashed when I upgraded
to a GeForce FX 5200 card (which requires up to 75 watts). When I
upgraded to a 480-watts power supply, no more problems.

Hello

First, many thanks!

Ok I did this, and there was a very useful table wih says about the
Radeon2900:
- Universal connector (ok, I saw that already in the shop :-)
- AGP versions 2.0 and 3.0
- AGP Signals: 3.3V, 1.5V, 0.8V
- Speeds: 2x, 4x, 8x

Perhaps :-) I had to add that my motherboard has AGP 1x and 2x slot, so I
don't think that's AGP version 2.0.

I wouldn't call this a big problem. I dind't looked at the power rating yet
(I had to opne the case) but I haven't very much extra in my PC, and if I
had to buy a new supply, so I'll buy one, they doesn't cost the world.

With my additions, would you think it will work?

Thanks
Felix

Felix, There are 3 arrangements for the Notches in the AGP card. One
notch front (of computer), one notch back and two notches. Ignore the
extra piece that hangs over the front of the AGP slot. Two notches
indicates that the board will adapt to 5 volt or 3.3 volt operation.
If it fits into the slot it should be OK. Jim
